Our Produce

Cyrenians Farm is a member of the Scottish Organic Producers Association (SOPA), but as well as caring for the planet by foregoing chemicals, we also help Mother Earth by reducing food miles.

We believe that strawberries are best in summer, are Scottish and don't come from Holland or Spain, that organic apples don't have to be brought from the other side of the world (New Zealand and USA!), and that local is best.

We only sell our own friut and vegetables therefore "seasonality" will dictate what we have to offer. It means that whilst our tomato season may only last July to October you will have four  whole months of fantastic red things that actually taste of tomatoes!!

We grow a wide variety of vegetables including carrots, turnips, early potatoes, pumpkins, cabbage, all sorts of salads, herbs and greenhouse crops, including tomatoes, cucumbers and chillies.

We grow what does well in our soil and what will do well for us, so there may be veggies that we don't grow or are out of season.

The same goes for fruit, we have blackcurrants, raspberries and starwberries but all have a limited season.  Our friut trees give us apples and plums and we are now planting pears too (for 2014!)

We make a variety of jams and chutneys using our own produce whenever possible (one notable exception is our Traditional Marmalade which as we all know MUST be made with bitter oranges from Seville).

We have a band of truly happy chickens on the farm which repay the love and care we give them with absolutely terrific free range organic eggs.

Our (only?) guilty secret is that we stock goodies from our old friends at The Chocolate Tree.

Now that you know what and how we grow, here's where you can get it;

Farmers' Market/Outlet

We hold a regular stall at Balerno Farmer's market on the second Saturday of every month. The Balerno Village Trust has been working hard to make this a successful independent market and strive to support local producers as much as possible. Our stall featires eggs, preserves and seasonal fruit and vegetables.

We make deliveries to offices in central Edinburgh on Thgursdays and are planning to increase both the frequency and locations as the growing season progresses. (Do you want to be our "Food friend"? We are always seeking people we can e-mail our weekly produce list for them to gather orders from colleagues and return it to us for delivery... there may be an egg, a tomato or something in it for you!)

We supply Real Foods in Broughton Street and Earthy in Ratcliffe Terrace.
